Date: Feb 16, 1997 TO: Beijing Conference Action and Resource Network FROM: Judy Kramer , 415-494-3222 The Beijing Conference Action and Resource Network (BCARN) is an informal network in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The goal is to link women and men interested in follow-up to the UN 4th World Conference on Women and the issues in the Platform for Action so that our work can be more effective. After a hiatus of seven months, the newsletter update, providing information about relevant events, resources, and news, is being reborn on e-mail. No printing, no folding, no postage :-) Soon, the update will be a more formal mail list. There is even a women's clearinghouse web page being created by a team of women active in the community and in the corporate world. When that site is ready, this update will be obsolete. For now, I will be sending out items the usual e-mail way, using a "blind" system so that you won't have to scroll through the 135+ addressees to get to the information. I'll try to keep the messages succinct and coming no more than once a week so that you are not overloaded. This is an experiment! Please send me comments and suggestions. If you don't want the regular mailings, let me know. If you know someone to add, or if you have an event or item to be posted, send it in to me. BCARN UPDATE #1 This first update describes six events. Sender: judi@manymedia.com Status: OR Judi-- This could get to be a lot of fun! It is so exciting to see it so available, even if it is very simple right now. Thank you for taking the initiative. I will put in the mail tomorrow the material I have on cultural creatives. I think you will find it very interesting. Keep me posted on the women's future project you told me about. I don't know how, but some way we will be working together on it. Also, please tell me again the title and authors of the book on the future scenarios. You had asked about the Updates. The one you have listed as Update #2 is actually #1, which should be dated Feb. 16. Update #2 is below and was published on Feb. 23. Is there any simple way to publish an index or list of contents so people would know what was in each update without having to look at all the text? I am thinking that while the events are really archival--no one can attend them after they've happened0--the resources are of continuing value. I could pull a chronological index together pretty easily and send it to you. Again, the web site was such a surprise and makes me feel that this work will be adding up in a way I was not imagining. Many thanks. Judy Beijing Conference Action and Resource Network E-mail Update #2 Here are two events that commemorate International Women's Day, March 8.
