CRIME RATES AMONG GIRLS RISING

CHRONICLE OF PHILANTHROPY ARTICLE

The Chronicle of Philanthropy, in its Sept. 18 issue, features several articles focused on the need to address the rise in crime rates among girls. Arrests of teen-age girls have been rising faster than those of boys in recent years, and one in every four juveniles arrested is female. At the same time, federal funds for prevention programs may dry up under new legislation that focuses on punishment and incarceration rather than prevention.

The article includes arrest statistics and extensive information about programs nationwide, changes in government funding, and recent foundation grants. If you would like a copy, contact the Chronicle of Philanthropy at 1255 Twenty-third Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037. Web site is www.philanthropy.com.
