Since 1979, Biblio Press has been publishing non-fiction books for Jewish women with special emphasis on the women's movement in Judaism. As a small, feminist press, it has published 2 to 3 books yearly, often with input and guidance from the academic community. Originally intended to provide reference guides and bibliographies, Biblio Press expanded to publish books of lost feminist content and various titles of interest to students in womens studies and religious programs.
Among Biblio's recent titles, used in several university programs, is a 1996 reprint of Burning Lights by Bela Chagall, a moving memoir illustrated with 36 line drawings by Marc Chagall, and with a new introduction by Professor Judith Baskin of the State University of New York at Albany. Another recent title is Drawing on the Bible: Biblical Women in Art, by Beth K. Haber, also with many illustrations. One of Biblio's most popular titles has been Miriam's Well: Rituals for Jewish Women Around the Year by P. V. Adelman; there is a companion book The Rosh Hodesh Table: Foods at the New Moon. Librarians may be especially interested in The Jewish Woman Bibliography 1986-1993, (supplemented by a 1994-1995 recent titles list) compiled by Ann S. Masnik, M.L.S., containing over 1400 citations.
