Name:

Monika

Title:

I'm a student at University of Manitoba and I am in the fourth year of Computer Engineering. I am also working part time for Community Access Program which helps rural communities get internet access and training.

Path:

Well, I don't consider my current job to be my career but I am hoping to find a job in the hardware design aspect of computer engineering once I finish my studies. I always found computers to be very intimidating and I like a challenge. I always felt like engineering was a "man's field" (and especially computer or electrical), but, as I mentioned, I like a challenge and I decided that this stereotype is worth challenging.

Comments:

I am glad I chose this field, because it's fascinating. If you chose this career you will never be bored. And don't let anyone intimidate you or tell you it's not a "girl's job", I know a lot of guys in my class that find the courses to be more difficult than I do. And of course the bonus is: the number of jobs available is large and growing (we all know that that is important) and knowledgeable engineers can live VERY comfortably on their salaries. Good Luck to you!
