Name:
Patricia
Title:
Associate Professor of Management Information Systems
Teach undergraduate students about computers and how they
are used in business. I do not teach about programming per
se (as does my colleagues in computer science), but
we do learn about how computers are used as a "tool"
in business. Managing data as a corporate resource
is very important!
Path:
Lots and lots of hard work. I put myself through
my bachelor's degree in business and then an MBA
in Information Systems. Currently, I'm enrolled in
a Ph.D. in Information Systems.
I started out in sales. Used computers (in their
infancy) and got really interested in them!
Comments:
Absolutely! You CAN be anything you want to be!
Too often I see my female college students (ages about
18-22)say that they "hate" computers or that they
are "afraid" of them! Why? The male students don't do
that! Computers are genderless: they don't care
if you are male or female! Any they are fun and
interesting to use. None of us were born with a
knowledge of computers. We all have the capacity to
learn about anything we want to. Don't let the boys
lead you to believe they know more than you (because
chances are, they don't)!
