Title:
Environmental Chemist/Contract project officer - I work for the
Federal Government, the Environmental Protection Agency. I oversee
government contractors that work to clean up government hazardous
waste sites - like Department of Energy or Department of Defense
property that they may have contaminated. I make sure the contractors
spend government money wisely and do excellent technical work.
Path:
I graduated with a Chemistry degree from Spelman College and began
working at the Science and Research Institute in the Atlanta
Universtiy Center. The Center was located on campus. I had a hard
time finding a full time job in my field, in Atlanta and did not
want to work in a lab, so I worked at the Center part-time. Then
the Center receieved a contract for some Industrial Hygiene/environmental
work. I started my environmental career there.
Comments:
You can do it!!! The Environmental field is ever-growing and
ever-changing. It's challenging and fun. I like it a lot. I also
enjoy working for the U.S. Government because I serve the people,
the citizens of this country, and the government has many benefits
that can be very beneficial for a career woman, happily married
wife and enthusistic mother of 2 girls.
